After admiring the pictures from the Autumn/Winter catwalks, I’m always left gazing in awe at the sleek and sexy leather looks, imagining myself walking down the streets of London with my legs wrapped in the same leather drapery. But like many, I had absolutely no idea where to start… nada. It might be the season’s favoured look, but it’s also the trickiest to pull off; though when worn right, you’ll definitely be turning heads!
After a little bit of research, I found the perfect pair of leather leggings, teamed them up with the right accessories and hit the town. I classed it as a success after the first few compliments.
And so, today, I share with you my tips and hope that you can pull of this winter’s most sought after look.
For a chic and smart look team a straight cut pair of trousers with a loose white shirt and a tailored black blazer. Tip: The key to pulling off leather is to only wear one item in the material; otherwise you’ll give off the biker appearance that we’re trying to stay away from.
You can team this look with a pair of wedged heels or faux fur-lined heeled hiking boots for the day, and then swap them for a pair of bright stilettos for night. Tip: I find that the leather leggings and trousers work best with long, lean legs, and therefore, for us women of average height (minus a few inches in my case), a pair of heels go a long way.
Skin-tight leather immediately screams ‘rock chic’. And so, if you’re getting into the rock ‘n’ roll spirit, worn with a baggy band-tee and jet black stilettos you can appear sexy and grungy at the same time. Tip: Avoid too many studs and badges. You want to look fashionable and not washed out. Maybe, add a few girly accessories. These and the stilettos will be the perfect blend of pretty and punk.
Complementing the harsh leather with a luxe and embellished contrast of materials adds that extra softness. A flowing and feminine tunic won’t go a miss whether you’re casually scanning the shops or living up the nightlife. This is one of the most popular of the leather looks without a doubt and will work for everybody. Tip: If you’re still a bit unsure of taking the leather leap, a longer tee or tunic adds for extra modish coverage.
Here are a few outfits I’ve pulled together that’ll give you the inspiration needed to take the leather leap;
