At the age of sixteen Lesley Hornby became the first ever internationally known supermodel; of course, we know her as Twiggy Lawson. In the mid sixties Twiggy’s signature thin frame, gigantic, painted eyes and pouted lips dominated fashion magazines and became an icon of mod fashion; even today, she is still classed as the face of the sixties.

Behind the Scenes
The Film
“Burberry Body is a feminine and effortlessly sensual fragrance with an eclectic combination of refined ingredients.
The scent has top notes of fresh green absinthe, illuminating elegant peach and refined freesia.
The floral bouquet of natural rose absolute and iris blends gently with subtle warm tones of sandalwood to form the heart notes.
Woody cashmeran, creamy vanilla, sensual amber and musk compose the base.”

Summer is just around the corner, and it’s time to make the most of the sun that’s been hidden from us for too long. I was talking to my girlies over a quick coffee the other day, and we all agreed that we like to build up a bit of a tan before we can get down the beach to show of our beach-bods, but to get that natural tan we need to whip out our winter-pale skin. Our faces screwed up at the horrifying thought! How are we supposed to achieve a sun-kissed glow, ready for summer, when we feel unable to get our bodies out to do so?
Being the english rose that I am, I found myself directly affects and decided to solve the problem for woman-kind! 😉 In the last few weeks I’ve been on a mission to find myself a gentle and successful self tanning product, to kick-start the tanning process. In this post I’ll be sharing with you my findings and some quick reviews on a few of the products out there on the market;
In order of lowest to highest in price:- (prices based roughly on average)
Garnier Skin Naturals Summer Body Moisturising Lotion – £5.00
“Garnier Summer Body Moisturising Lotion, applied daily, builds a radiant, glowing gradual tan. The formula is enriched with a hint of self-tan and specially selected camomile and apricot extract to leave skin soft and supple.”
The lotion is non-greasy, and the intensity of the tan can be easily controlled by the amount of layering. The scent is quite subtle and pleasant.
Simple Kind To Skin Sun-Kissed Moisture Cream – £5.00
“Smile, it’s Simple. Simple Kind To Skin Sun-Kissed Moisture Cream is a perfect blend of vitamin goodness and gentle tanning agents to give daily moisturisation and gradually build a light, natural tan. 2 Vital Vitamins: Pro-Vitamin B5 actively restores, softens and smoothes. Vitamin E moisturises to improve skin condition. 2 Skin Loving Nutrients: Glycerin hydrates and nourishes. Bisabolol soothes and calms.”
This product stays true to the brand’s maxim as it is perfect for those with sensitive skin. Although the product says it’s not perfumed, there is still a slight scent, but it’s scarcely noticeable.
Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion – £6.00
“The unique combination of active Dove moisturisers and a hint of self tanning agents will gradually build a light tan and leave your skin silky smooth.”
This is a really light lotion, which is easy to distribute evenly and smoothly. The tan takes quite a while to build up and become noticeable, but the end result is worth the wait. This is was the first product I tried. Don’t let the low price fool you – it works perfectly well, and I would definitely recommend it!
L’Oreal Sublime Tinted Gel – £9.00
“L’Oreal Sublime Tinted Gel instantly illuminates your skin! The tinted formula allows you to apply the self-tanning gel with confidence.”
L’Oreal gives a quick light tan that dries in an instant. The good thing with this product is that it’s coloured brown, so you can see where you’re putting it. However, you might not want to layer too much of this one on, as it can go slightly orange.
Clinique Body Daily Tinted Moisturiser – £16.00
“A tinted body lotion that provides instant color without the sun. Daily body moisturiser with just a touch of self-tanner creates a deep, natural-looking glow as it softens, smoothes. Maintain or build colour with daily application of this mistake-proof formula.”
Like the majority of the Clinique ranges, this product is available for the following skin types; 1) Very Dry to Dry, 3) Oily, 4) Very Oily. I would always recommend Clinique. I’ve used the brand for years and have never had a problem. The moisturiser gives a slight shimmer effect which leaves you glowing and looking gorgeous! The product is also waterproof which is a bonus. The only downside, however, is its strong scent.
St. Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Spray – £20.00
“With no guide colour, it’s quick and simple to use and your tan will develop in just a few hours. Also features 360° spray technology to get to those hard to reach places.”
This is quite a clever self tan, it can easily be applied by yourself all over. The spray is very fine and dries smoothly. Luckily, only missed areas will look uneven, so don’t worry if you spray the same area twice. The spray does take a long time to dry so patience is needed, and it’s best to apply in a ventilated room.
Clarins Delectable Self Tanning Mousse – £21.00
“This fantastic self-tanner, with a whipped-cream texture, is a lightweight, white mousse that seems to melt into the skin, giving it a gradual, natural-looking tan without any help from the sun. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and protects against free radicals as it helps slow down skin aging. SPF 15 provides protective sun filters.”
This product has no strong smell, and the light scent that it does have is a soft peach aroma. The product ‘glides on gently’ and stays on your body, not onto your white sheets!
Estée Lauder Goddess Golden Perfection Self-Tanning Body Milk – £22.00
“Divine Seduction for Your Skin. Instantly see a radiant, luminous glow. Self-tanner creates. Even, golden colour, starting in under an hour. Every Bronze Goddess formula includes a nurturing blend of Fruit Extract, Jasmine and Narcissus Flowers, Coconut Oil and more – our exclusive Abricot Nectar. Conditions skin for a more healthy, radiant look. “
This product is perfect for a soft and smooth application. It’s thin consistency glides on effortlessly, but takes a little while to dry. Results are quick.
Lancome Flash Bronzer – £23.00
“Tan in a flash, no sun required! This innovative formula contains a unique combination of an active self-tanning agent (DHA), moisturisers, to soften and smooth the skin, and Pure Vitamin E, to help preserve your skin’s youthful beauty.”
This self-tanner is specifically designed for the face, but can be used all over and claims to be for all skin types. It’s quick to apply and to dry, with only a ‘pearl-sized drop’ needed for the face. The product is non-greasy, but unfortunately only comes in a single, light shade.
Dior Bronze Self-Tanner Natural Glow – £25.00
“All of the sun’s benefits and none of its dangers, in a satiny, golden gel that mimics a natural tan.”
This product might be the highest in price, but is definitely worth the price. It creates luminous and natural results. The gel is quite thick, and needs rubbing in deeply. It dries quickly and lasts noticeably longer than the majority of others.
The Golden Rules:
1) Exfoliate 24 hours before you tan and always pay attention to elbows, knees and ankles. These areas are naturally drier, and so, the tanning lotion is likely to adhere to the skin, creating noticeably darker patches.
2) Always gives your whole body a good moisturise, applying more to those naturally dry areas.
3) Be systematic. It’s best to start tanning from your face and work your way down. Map out your body in stages so you don’t miss or overdo bits. It’s suggested to leave your hands and feet until last.

With Halloween just passed and the spooky spirit still in tact, I think it’s time for another makeup tutorial to achieve a great going-out look.
I chose to dress as a cat for this year’s celebrations, as did about twenty other people at the parties, I realised the high demand and searched the web for celebrities who pull off this look the best. And of course, I found the beautiful Rihanna.
